A NEW tanker will offer better protection for Propodollah Fire Brigade members during emergencies.
The brigade north-west of Nhill received a new appliance on Sunday, to replace one built in the 1980s.
Country Fire Authority District 17 operations officer Mick Lavery said the new appliance had more cabin room and improved safety equipment.
“It has a crew cab, so you can fit five people safely, which is a lot better than having people travelling in the rear of the appliance,” he said. “The old one had a single cab, so it could only fit three people.
“The new appliance also has updated crew protection for when crews are working off the back of the cab, and better protection if the truck is caught in a dangerous situation.
“It is also easier to drive, and the pump is easier to operate.”
Mr Lavery said the handover included a demonstration on how the new appliance operated.
He said Propodollah brigade had solid membership.
“They are a strong and viable brigade,” he said.
“Every member is active and they all contribute well. They are a great asset to the community.”
