Run by acclaimed wildlife artist and author Brett Jarrett, the masterclass portrait workshop was held at the Horsham Regional Art Gallery.
About a dozen local artists attended the event, each aiming to produce their very own portrait of an Australian cockatoo.
Mr Jarrett gave the participants a number of tips and tricks to help make their portraits realistic.
“Just as a portrait artist, any animal painted in the realism genre deserves to be accurately portrayed,” he said.
“As an artist, know your subject and try your best to represent it as beautifully as nature does.”
In the afternoon, Mr Jarrett took part in a walking talk about the gallery’s current exhibition, The Mann Collection of Wildlife Art.
As the co-author of The Complete Guide to Antarctic Wildlife, he then presented an illustrated talk about his dedication to documenting the wildlife of Antarctica.
