The 25-year-old man heard a vehicle driving erratically along Lake Street, Murtoa in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Sergeant Brendan Khan said the man went outside to confront the 19-year-old female driver of the vehicle.
“There was one female passenger and two male passengers in the car; the man confronted them about the noise and they drove off,” he said.
“However, the two male passengers – a 19-year-old man from Horsham and an 18-year-old man from Dimboola - later returned on foot and called the man outside.
“There was an argument on the street between the three men. One of the alleged perpetrators was carrying a hockey stick and allegedly hit the victim over the head. The other passenger produced a tyre iron.”
He said the driver then proceeded to drive at the victim.
“She reversed back and forth several times striking the victim’s legs and causing injury; she then reversed into a fence of a vacant block,” he said.
The woman then exited the vehicle and allegedly produced a knife.
“She confronted the victim and forced him to retreat back into his home,” he said.
“The victim called triple zero and was taken to Wimmera Base Hospital with serious head and leg injuries. He was released the next day but will have to have check-ups.”
On July 26, police attended a McClintock Street, Murtoa, property with a search warrant.
“Police searched the property and seized a hockey stick, a tyre iron and a knife,” he said.
“Two men and a woman were arrested and interviewed at Horsham Police Station. The woman was remanded in custody and faced 21 charges, including reckless conduct causing serious injury.
“She was also charged with several traffic offences, including driving while unlicensed and driving an unregistered vehicle.”
She appeared at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court from Horsham Magistrates’ Court via videolink on Friday, pleading guilty to all charges.
“She received a community corrections order with the requirement to undertake 150 hours of unpaid work over 15 months, attend an anger management course and a road trauma awareness course,” he said.
“She will be disqualified from driving for 12 months.”
The two alleged male perpetrators will appear at Horsham Magistrates’ Court on October 8 charged with intentionally causing injury, affray and other assault charges.
