The Wimmera agriculture college will host hundreds of people from around the country at its annual Open Day on Sunday.
The college’s business development officer Donna Winfield said the day would be packed with exciting events and activities.
“The whole college will be open to people,” she said.
“It will be a great opportunity for anyone interested in the agriculture industry to learn about the variety of careers that are available to be studied here.
“They will be able to hear about the scholarships and pathways available to them, while our passionate students will be on hand to explain why they love the school.”
Campus and farm tours will be conducted throughout the day and prospective students can view projects which will be undertaken during their time at the college.
The popular Show Steer Team will thrill the crowd as students parade their steers on Open Day, in preparation for the Royal Melbourne Show in September.
“This is a chance for our students to showcase the work they’ve been doing,” she said.
The Open Day will also include presentations about course structure, scholarship information as well as future developments earmarked for the college.
One of the college’s most notable future developments is its plans to start intaking international students from 2019.
“We’re expecting a lot of interest from international students this year,” she said.
“We’ve got people coming from South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania and all around Victoria for the day. We’re expecting upwards of 350 people.”
The Open Day starts at 10am. Course information sessions will be held in the college auditorium at 10.15am, 11.15am and 1.30pm.
The sessions will include information on the many career opportunities within the agricultural industry, scholarships on offer, news about future plans, course information and an insight into life at the college.
Farm bus tours will start at 10.30am and will run every half hour thereafter.
Accommodation and campus tours will be held all day from 10am to 3pm. Current students will take prospective students and their families for a walking tour of the campus.
The Show Steer Parade will be held at 11.30am and 2.30pm. Current students will be parading the 2018 Longerenong College Show Steer Team in preparation for the Royal Melbourne Show.
