The Falcons had a chance to secure the minor flag with a win but failed against the third-placed Rangers. Horsham’s Craig Muller came the closest to breaking the deadlock in the opening stages.
The Rangers goal keeper produced two solid saves to stop long-range shots from Muller.
After a scrappy first half, Forest Rangers broke through a stern Horsham defence putting Fintan Farrell one-on-one with Horsham goal keeper Elijah Macchia. Farrell calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
Questions of offside were waved away as Forest took the advantage into the break.
Horsham suffered injuries to Mitchell Butterworth and July Htoo in the second half. Forest Rangers received a red card for a handball but despite the player advantage Horsham could not find an avenue to goal.
Horsham remains on top of the ladder, six points above second-placed Ballarat Red.
The Falcons need just one point from its remaining two games to secure the club’s first minor premiership.
Horsham welcomes third-placed Daylesford and Hepburn United on Sunday with kick-off at 2pm at Dudley Cornell.
