The business applied to Hindmarsh Shire Council to build a new shelter as an extension to its duck marshalling yard at 160 Rupps Road.
The 15-metre by 33-metre shelter will give the yard a total area of 1485 square metres.
The application stated the yard’s purpose was to house and calm any crated live birds that were delivered to the processing plant.
The current marshalling yard comprises two adjacent and joined structures, one with an original 1990s roof-line and one built in 2011.
The application said the extension was needed to not only increase the yard’s capacity, but also allow an operational area for the marshalling yard activities to continue while essential and major repairs are completed on the structure built in the 1990s.
It said Spanlift would be commissioned for both portions of the work, and would match the proposed extension and the repair section to the structure they supplied in 2011.
Luv-a-Duck announced last month it was expanding into the Ballarat market.
Nhill will continue to be the base for the business’s processing operations.
Luv-a-Duck chief executive Daryl Bussel told the Mail-Times last month the business would spend $5 million in the next 18 months for upgrades at Nhill.
