This month we chat to cadet David Roberts about how the organisations has inspired him to achieve his goals.
Name: David Roberts
Age: 16 years old.
Rank: Cadet Corporal in the Australian Air Force Cadets at no. 422 squadron Horsham.
How did you learn about cadets: I first knew about the Air Force Cadets when I was living in Adelaide a couple of years ago and developed an interest to join.
When I moved to Horsham I was able to fulfil that dream and I have never looked back.
What activities have you been involved in: Through the cadets, I have been on several activities ranging from flying, shooting, camping and marching through Horsham on one of the most significant days of Australia’s history - ANZAC Day.
Being in the cadets has inspired me to get a pilot’s licence, which I have just recently achieved, and to join the air force when I finish school, to become a pilot.

What has been your best experience: In my cadet career, the best experience I have ever had would be attending a General Service Training camp.
A GST is a week-long activity held at RAAF base East Sale - the home of the Roulettes.
The camp is more than just marching around and saluting officers, but a first-hand immersion into air force life, where we live on base, eat in the mess with defence personnel, visit various units and squadrons around the base and go and see the Roulettes and their aircraft.
Being in the cadets has inspired me to get a pilot’s licence, which I have just recently achieved, and to join the air force when I finish school to become a pilot.
When I finish school, my plans are to go to the Australian Defence Force Academy to study aviation technology and to then join the air force as a pilot.
Being in the Australian Air Force Cadets has been the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and I would definitely recommend it to anyone with an interest in aviation, shooting, camping, adventure, or even just someone who wants to make new friends and try something new.
