The group will host its Main Field Day on Wednesday, September 12 at Peter and Jenny Jolly’s farm, Narraport.
The event will give growers the opportunity to see a range of field trials, and to discuss agronomic and livestock topics relevant to their farming business.
It will also bring specialist researchers and consultants to the region who will exchange knowledge with the local farming community. BCG extension manager Ciara Cullen said the program boasted more than twenty speakers.
“The BCG team have planned a full day featuring highly regarded industry experts who will share their knowledge with growers on a range of production challenges and opportunities aiming to improve their profitability,” she said.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear presentations from expects such as Agriculture Victoria researcher Dr Jason Brand, who will discuss lentil variety herbicide tolerance.
Regional Research Agronomist Audrey Delahunty will present information on the impact of frost on pulse production, Seasonal Risk Agronomist Dale Grey will present his spring weather outlook.
Attendees can select from one of four site tours which will visit various research trials where BCG research staff, agricultural scientists, leading industry professionals and leading farmers will be on hand to discuss the trials and answer questions.
Topics covered will include row spacing and seeding rates, lentil crop tolerance to herbicides, hay versus grain decision making, crop type mixes for grazing and eID and automatic drafting for sheep management.
Ms Cullen said the BCG Main Field Day was one of the biggest spring field days in the Wimmera and Southern Mallee regions.
“It offers value for your time and money, but also the chance to catch up with 400 other growers and industry representatives from across the region and Australia,” she said.
The BCG Main Field Day will be held on Wednesday, September 12 from 8am to 4pm. The main research paddock is on the Nullawil-Birchip road at Narraport, about 18 kilometres from Birchip.
