The couple married on September 8, 1951 and are celebrating 67 years of marriage on Saturday.
Mrs Cookson said they were friends for awhile after meeting at a dance in England.
"It was during the war and daughters were well protected at that time. I wasn’t allowed to go out until I was 17 when I went to a dance,” she said. “I met Ted on one of those nights.
“We were friends for awhile and then he asked me to go to the pictures. I didn’t tell my parents about Ted, but my nosy neighbour told my mum after we’d been together for three months.”
Mr and Mrs Cookson moved to Australia after they were married.
“Ted said it was going to nice and sunny. It poured with rain for two weeks when we got here,” she said.
Over the years, Mr Cookson said they have had their ups and downs, but he enjoyed every minute.
During their 67 years of marriage they had five children, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
