THE Horsham community has had a ball at the ‘Dance for Clance’ fundraiser on Saturday, and exceeded all expectations to raise $20,850 for brain cancer research and awareness.

Organised by Tony Clancy’s daughters, Mollie, Grace, Violet and Harriet O’Donnell-Clancy, the event was the culmination of about three months of work and a GoFundMe page that closed this week.
The now 56-year-old Clance beat brain cancer when he was 25.
He showed his appreciation for the support given to him by family and the community at the time, by raising $14,000 for the cancer council.
Now, with his health deteriorating through the ongoing effects of treatment and two aneurisms, but with inspiration from Clance’s positive, happy nature, his girls decided to try and raise the same amount for television personality Carrie Bickmore’s charity, Beanies for Brain Cancer.
The GoFundMe page and the dance event on Saturday were beyond anything they thought possible.
“It was awesome,” Grace said.
“It really exceeded all expectation.”
One of the highlights of the night was a video by Carrie Bickmore that was played in which she thanked the girls and Horsham community for their support.
“With your support and your generous donations we are one step closer to increasing survival rates for brain cancer sufferers,” Ms Bickmore said.
“I really believe that together we can make a difference in the fight against brain cancer, so thankyou so much for your support.”
Ms Bickmore said it sounded like Clance was a “pretty special bloke”.
“Which he is,” Grace said. “Dad was there and had the best time; smiling and laughing the whole night.”
While the girls are now catching their breath there is a thought that it would be great to do it again next year; even make it annual.
“It’s just a thought,” Grace said.
