WOULD you like to see a Big Hay Stack in Hopetoun?
How about a Giant Florrie for Horsham? Or the Big Climber in the Grampians?
One of these could soon be a reality and joining our very own Giant Koala and Mallee Bull on the big stage.
Online travel site Wotif this week launched a nationwide search to give an Aussie town or city a new tourist attraction.
Called the Next Big Thing, the competition will allow people across the country to vote for which attraction will join the more than 150 ‘big’ things already in existence.
The aim is to support tourism and the economy.
Wotif research shows 90 per cent of people in Australia have visited a ‘Big Thing’ in the lifetime, and more than half will stop if they see one of these attractions while travelling.
Wotif managing director Daniel Finch said the Next Big Thing contest would celebrate Australia and give back to those who have helped the company evolve.
“With more Aussies opting to travel locally and domestic travel predicted to grow by 21 per cent over the next 10 years, our decision to give Aussies just another reason to discover their own backyard, is something we feel passionate about,” he said.
People can submit their ‘big’ ideas at wotif.com.
The winner will be selected through a two-week voting process starting on September 25.
Wotif hopes to build and unveil the new attraction by the end of the year.
