Live Well, Be Well was about connecting the community to a variety of social networks and health and wellbeing options at May Park on Sunday.
Organiser Lauren Dempsey said physical health and a positive mindset begins by being socially connected to the community. However, people are often unaware to the networks available to them.
“From a preventative perspective, a healthy physical and mental wellbeing is about being socially connected,” she said.
“We want to showcase what exists in terms of healthy eating and physical activity.”
The event had stallholders such as the Horsham Squash Club, headpace Horsham, Horsham Bunnings and Yoga Horsham teacher Aaron Schultz.
Ms Dempsey said the event has offered people new methods to attain a healthy lifestyle while broadening their knowledge on community groups that have an emphasis on positive wellbeing.
“There are a variety of groups that are here, which might have not been considered. People wouldn’t think of the Country Fire Authority, but it has a strong wellbeing team,” she said.
“By no means, do we have every health and wellbeing option here, but this is a starting point. It’s about starting a conversation where people can use the different social networks to find the right group for them.”
Horsham’s headspace Louise Barnett said there are different methods to create a healthy head space, but ultimately it was about being connected.
“When it comes to one’s wellbeing we all know what to do, but it’s the places we can reach out to that’s the challenge,” she said.
The event comes ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day on Monday and RUOK Day on Thursday, aiming to raise awareness around and prevent instances of suicide in the community.
