Natimuk United president Adam Blake didn’t think his club would come away with the award.
“We are really proud of this; I’m not sure when we last won this award but I think it has been some time,” he said.
“We have been strong for a few years and have been right up there, however we will have to reach back into the history books to see when we last won one.”
The club had a very strong season across all of its grades – only the under-14s footballers didn’t make the finals.
The A Grade Ewes will be in action in Saturday’s grand final.
“We had 10 teams in finals this season,” Mr Blake said.
“That was up on last year – we had perhaps seven last year.
“Three of those 10 teams have made it into the grand final this weekend.”
Natimuk United has had some tough years in which it struggled with player numbers and on-field performances.
Mr Blake said a range of factors have helped the club move forward and experience success along the way too.
“I think a whole lot of things go into our recent success,” he said.
“I think what keeps getting forgotten in our difficult years are the great people who kept the club alive through the good and the bad.
“We don’t forget that and many of those people are still around today.”
Mr Blake said him and the club had tried to create a positive energy for players, volunteers and fans.
“The club has been well run, and we salute all those people who have done the work before us and also in recent times,” he said.
“We try to create a whole lot of energy and we think it’s working.”
