The Royal Flying Doctor Service marked 90 years of service at a function in Horsham on Thursday.
What started as an organisation with a single plane leased from Qantas with one doctor and one pilot has expanded into a fleet of 69 planes, 115 road vehicles and more than 1400 professionals who work across the country.
Horsham’s Royal Flying Doctor Service base opened in 2013, and provides non-emergency patient transport between patients’ homes and care services.
The organisation also provides telehealth, eye care and dental services in the Wimmera, as well as a rural women’s GP.
Horsham Rural City Mayor Pam Clarke said the city was grateful for the organisation’s work in making their health services available to people in rural and regional areas.
The service’s Victorian chairman Denis Henry the organisation was committed to building partnerships in many areas to create healthier communities.
“As Australia’s most reputable charity we are proud to be delivering health care across Australia, thanks to incredible generosity of supporters,” he said.
