HARROW-BALMORAL’s Anthony Close was named best on ground in the Southern Roos’ grand final win.
The ruckman worked tirelessly all day and was one of a host of tall players who played well despite the slippery conditions.
Close kicked the first goal of the last term to give Kalkee less of a chance of a comeback.
“I thought Nick Pekin was best on ground, I really wasn’t expecting it,” Close said.
“We were really up and about and really kept the pressure up going forward in the last quarter.
“We wanted it more in the last quarter. We have a lot of young blokes and a lot of talls but then guys like Nick and Will Plush on the ground that do a lot of the hard work.
“I’ve lost four grand finals and won one now.”
