This weekend will be filled with events to celebrate the musician’s 61st birthday on Saturday. Cave was born in Warracknabeal in 1957, and his family moved away from the town in 1960.
Warracknabeal Arts Council member, and avid Nick Cave fan, Peter Loy said people were expected to flock to the Wimmera town for the celebration.
“The highlight of weekend will be an exclusive screening of the concert film Distant Sky: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Live in Copenhagen at the Warracknabeal Town Hall on Saturday night,” he said.
“This was an exclusive opportunity granted to Warracknabeal as the movie was only shown around the world for just one day.
“The film has not been shown officially anywhere in the world since and is not yet available on DVD.”
Distant Sky is a concert documentary shot as part of the Bad Seeds’ Skeleton Tree tour in 2017.
“This tour followed the recording of the album Skeleton Tree; it was a recording that coincided with considerable tragedy for Cave with the death of his son Arthur,” Mr Loy said.
“The album was recorded after a few months had passed but the trauma of this loss is clearly on display with an overwhelming sadness that pervades all the songs from the album.
“The the audience would have been acutely aware that they were seeing Cave for the first time since that tragedy and the experience would be incredibly special.
“If you know nothing about Nick Cave then this is the way to introduce yourself to his performances.”
The weekend will kick off on Friday with a meet up at Café Peppercorn from 4pm.
On Saturday, breakfast will be held at Pharmacino Café from 9am, followed by a group photo outside Nick Cave’s family home.
Lunch will be held at the Creekside Hotel from 12pm, followed by a Brim silo art tour at 2.30pm.
Distant Sky will be screened at the Warracknabeal Town Hall from 7.30pm.
