In his second season back in Victoria after playing in Western Australia, Stevenson notched his second consecutive best and fairest award for his club, Bell Park Dragons, and was named in the Geelong Football League’s team of the year.
He also represented the Geelong league at Etihad Stadium in the interleague clash against the Eastern Football League.
To top it off, Stevenson represented Victoria Country against Victoria Metro in a team that was coached by AFL legend Danny Frawley.
Stevenson said Frawley was an inspiring coach to play under in the one-off game.
“You definitely want to jump out of your skin after you hear him talk,” he said.
“Just hearing him talk, it was unbelievable. The good vibes he can give you in a speech is just crazy. He is a good man.”
Stevenson said this season has been one of the best of his career.
“This year has probably been one of the highlights of my career so far,” he said.
“Representing the GFL in the interleague was a pretty proud moment and being able to play on Etihad Stadium and to get a feel for the type of ground the AFL guys play on is every child’s dream. It was an unreal experience.
“To also be able to represent my state and play some decent footy in that game, was a humbling experience.
“We got the win for Victoria Country and came together pretty closely in the game and shared a special moment.”
The former Natimuk footballer said he had enjoyed playing in Geelong since moving across from the Western Australian Football League.
“Playing those years of footy in the WAFL put me in a good place for coming into the GFL,” he said.
“The grounds are a bit more compacted than in Western Australia, but I’ve been able to play some good football in Geelong.
“Getting those individual honours is a bit of a nice reward for all the hard work you put into it.”
Stevenson’s side just missed out on playing finals football this season. He said he hasn’t yet made a decision on where he will play his football next year.
“Last year we finished second but went out in straight sets in finals and this year we missed out on finals by about four points,” he said.
“I’m not too sure about next season. I live in Melbourne and still have meetings with clubs so I haven’t decided on next year yet.”
