Coach Pauline Butler said after the match her group always knew it was going to be a huge battle.
“We knew Saints wouldn’t give up until the dying seconds, and credit to them – they clawed their way back in that last quarter,” she said.
“We were up and some silly errors can cost you the game sometimes.
“You couldn’t ask for a better game for an A Grade match, to be so close all game. It was a credit to both sides.”
Butler said her team was a force to be reckoned with, and she hoped they could stay together for future seasons.
“It’s disappointing for the girls. They’ve worked hard for this all year and they’re all disappointed in themselves. But they shouldn’t be," she said
“They did a great job and they beat a couple of outstanding sides to get where they were.
“As a coach I couldn’t be prouder.
“The loss is hard and it hurts, but I’m so proud of all the girls. They all came on and played their role.”
Butler said the group had a lot of potential, particularly given they were a fairly new team this year, with many who had not played together before.
“We had a lot of young kids in, and we’ve got a lot of young talent. They’re only going to get better and they’re going to learn from this experience,” she said.
“It would be great to keep the group together, but you just never know what next season will bring.
“But I’m pretty confident that no matter what, we’ll put another pretty good side on the park next year.”
