“All good things must come to an end. After almost three years the time is right for me to pursue other opportunities,” Ms Sturgess said.
“Unfortunately I’m not able to stay in Horsham. It’s disappointing because I’ve had such a positive experience living in this community.
“Everyone was so welcoming and supportive; it’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know the community.
“I genuinely want to thank the community for welcoming Max (Pietruschka) and I with open arms. Max will always have an everlasting legacy through the Voices of the Wimmera choir.”

She said she was pleased with her achievements in the position.
“Since I moved into this role I have gained a deep understanding of and respect for the unique circumstances of life in rural and remote Victoria,” she said.
“I am proud of the work that we have done here at Uniting Wimmera in supporting vulnerable and marginalised people.
“Helping establish headspace Horsham was a great honour. It’s been such a positive service for young people in our region. We’ve also been able to increase foster care services for at risk young people to enable them to stay in the region.
“Also, growing outreach services – whether it’s expanded alcohol and other drugs services, or headspace’s teleheath – has been a great way to show that we cater not just for Horsham, but to those outlying areas too.”
Another highlight Ms Sturguss said she was proud of was her involvement with the Wimmera and Southern Mallee Regional Partnership.
Josh Koenig will step into the acting executive officer role while the search for a replacement takes place.
“We thank Wendy for her leadership and tireless work advocating for the Wimmera over the past three years,” he said.
“On a personal note I am sad to see Wendy go and I’m sure my fellow colleagues would agree she has been an excellent leader and mentor to all of us. She leaves us in a strong position to build on the achievements of recent years.
“For example, we will continue to advocate for a Safety Hub in Horsham to provide a place of safety for those facing family violence.”
Ms Sturgess said plans were in motion for the next chapter in her life.
“Plans are forming as we speak and I’m excited to take what I’ve learned here to my next position,” she said.
“The Wimmera will always hold a special place in my heart.”
