Sunnyside 1 managed an 11-shot win over last year’s premiers Kaniva.
Betty Dumesny, Sue Lyttle, Rex Bergen and Jill Coutts(s) had an eight-shot win on their rink for the victors.
After winning only three games last season Dimboola got off to a great start beating Horsham City 1 by 13 shots. Bev Gazelle and Pam Budde skipped their rinks to good wins for Dimboola.
Coughlin Park 1 made the trip up the highway to Nhill and fell by 49 shots to the home side.
Glenda Pola, Barry Cramer, Jenny Blackwood and Cheryl Merrett(s) won by 29 shots.
Lorraine Palmer, Jean Hamlyn, Joan Cook and Lorraine Pilgrim(s) weren’t far behind with a 24-shot win of their own.
In Division 2 the grand final replay between Serviceton and Natimuk saw Servi turn the tables from last year and win by three shots.
Each side won a rink, but a six-shot win by Gwen Colwill, Lois Miles, Wendy Miles and Loma Wallis(s) proved pivotal on the day.
Goroke defeated Coughlin Park 2 by 21 shots. Goroke won both rinks, with Pam Bonnici, Nadine Stacey, Merle Burns and Bev Hadden(s) getting up by 15 shots.
Horsham City 2 also won both rinks against Edenhope.
Ed Warrick, John Lehmann, Geoff Gloury and Barb Gloury(s) had an impressive 19-shot win.
Sunnyside 2 has yet to begin their season as they had the bye in the first round.
Next Monday will be the second round of Midweek Pennant before Weekend pennant starts on the Saturday.
