Strong attendance from repeat buyers, and many new visitors from around the region, showed their support support for the annual event, and visited the studs to get a behind-the-scenes look at their operations and long recognised quality Merino bloodlines.
A regular feature event of the Marnoo Merino Breeders group, it enables the breeders to show off the diverse range of high quality genetics and different breeding objectives of each stud.
The well attended on-property field day also gave visitors the chance to pre-inspect the many rams that will be offered at some of the stud’s upcoming ram sales. This highlight event coincides with the fortnight of auctions held at the district studs.
The studs participating in the field day included Old Dundee, Belbourie, Oakbank, Charinga, Banavie, Gowandale, Forest Springs, Sohnic, and Wallaloo Park.
Wallaloo Park's John Carter said he had new clients attend and buy rams at the stud's open day held during the day.
“The state of the industry is fantastic at the moment apart from the season, which has been a bit indifferent for everyone,” he said.
“We’ve got great prices for meat and wool, so there’s more interest from people that are perhaps wanting to infuse merino back into (their business) to get an income stream from wool; we’re seeing a fair bit of that during that last month or so.”
