Horsham Community and Police Consultative Committee chairman David Eltringham said the group had discussed the current 60km/h speed limit near the Kalkee Road Children's and Community Hub.
The centre, which includes a kindergarten and maternal and child health services, opened in February.
“The group felt there was a need for a review of the speed limit. With the new hub, we felt the current speed limit was inappropriate and that it should be more in tune with the speed limits that apply to school zones,” he said.
“There seems to be an inconsistency with the speed limit there and the limits around schools of 40km/h.
“All we can do is write to VicRoads and also to Horsham Rural City Council, as they are the ones who can help influence VicRoads to change the speed limit.”
There is a crossing near the hub, but no permanent reduced speed limit like near schools.
