Wimmera Health Care Group chief executive Catherine Morley said she wanted to thank the 900-plus individuals and organisations that contributed to the Rachael’s Wish appeal.
“The community response to Rachael’s Wish has been truly remarkable and we are very grateful for the support and we aim to honour every single donor in the new building,” she said.
“With that in mind, we want to let people know we are finalising the interior designs of the centre and working on how we will commemorate the donors.”
The group has set a cut-off date for donations of October 15. Any other donations made to the centre after this date will still receive a formal thank-you, but will not be included in the commemorative design.
“If people still wish to donate to the Wimmera Cancer Centre, they can do so, just like they can donate to any department at WHCG,” she said.
“Future donations will be put aside to go into continual costs and future equipment upgrades, they won’t go towards establishing the centre.
“We thank everyone who has made this centre a reality and we are so grateful. We now encourage people to look at other areas of the health service that could benefit from donations, or other projects in this wonderful community.”
Rachael Littore, the Cancer survivor the appeal is named after, said she was overwhelmed to think that her wish was almost a reality.
“The biggest thing I want to do is say thank you to all the people who have supported the cause,” she said.
“I want people to know how much their actions and their voices have meant.
“This centre isn’t just the work of a few individuals, it is from the work of the whole community and the commemorative donation design will capture that.
“That way everyone who has helped can come in and see they are part of the building.”
