Martin performed well and finished 13^th out of 40 junior girls in the singles.

Her and her doubles partner Amy Shoesmith came in fourth place, just missing out on bronze by 18 pins. 

Martin said it was a great experience. A team of eight boys and eight girls went to the event for Australia. 

“The experience and the opportunity to represent Australia in the sport I love was amazing,” she said.

“I miss it already to be fair. The conditions were really tough but getting to know other cultures and try new things is something I’ll never forget. 

“As for the bowling I definitely had my ups and downs. I didn’t bowl as well as I would have liked but I’ll learn from my mistakes and aim to do better next year.

“As for the team events, on day one we didn’t bowl as great as we would have liked and the lanes played completely differently to the other days, but we managed to bowl a lot better on day two.”

Martin missed out on bowling in the girls’ masters event by just one place. The top 16 bowlers in the overall girls’ standings went into the masters. 

“Sadly I missed out on masters by just eight pins, which is really frustrating to think about,” she said.

“I’m still happy with how I did. I now know what it’s like to bowl overseas so I feel like I’ll be a lot more confident next year and I had an absolute blast with the 16 of us that went over.”

The group also spent some time in Singapore before the start of the event on September 30.

“We spent about four nights at a sports school in Singapore before heading to Taiwan, to train and adjust to the climate,” she said.

“Overall I really enjoyed my time spent over in Taiwan and Singapore and made many memories and friends.”

Next up for Martin will be focusing on preparing for the president’s shield, while there could also be world junior bowling championships on the horizon. 

“We will see how it goes, I just need to keep working hard,” she said.
