The association considered changing the junior competitions from under-12s, under-14s and under-16.5s to under-13s, under-15s and under-17.5s.
“The proposal was to change the under-12s to under-13s and make it more of a competition and play along Cricket Australia guidelines and also our country week cricket,” Horsham Cricket Association secretary Darren Chesterfield said.
Mr Chesterfield said the changes would again be considered next season with a hope to pass some changes.
“We will work on it earlier next season and try to revisit it and see if we can get some changes happening for the next season,” he said.
With player numbers cited as a concern from clubs, the association decided to keep with the same structure from previous seasons.
The tight timeline ahead of the season also meant the changes were unable to be implemented.
“In the end we maintained the current structure because it became apparent that for this season, we were going to keep more kids playing junior cricket if we kept it the same,” Mr Chesterfield said.
“At the end of the day we had difficulty with clubs getting their numbers organised and we ran out of time.
“We decided there would be more children included if we stuck with the old format, so that’s what we have decided to go with.”
The Horsham Cricket Association junior season kicks off on Saturday, alongside the start of the C Grade season.
