The project will include paving on the lakeside of the archway and the installation of rendered white brick walls.
Murtoa RSL sub-branch and Lake Marma Public Park and Gardens Committee of Management were granted $16,312 by the state government to complete the project.
RSL secretary Terry Tyler said he was pleased the groups were approved for the funding.
“The arch itself is fine, we’re extending the path area on the lakeside of the arch, which is the side the World War Two memorial is on,” he said.
“With the upgrades to the other side of the lake being done, when you come from that side it will look complete. It’s great news and we’re very happy. We have Remembrance Day coming up where we’ll just be doing a short standing service.”
Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said it was one of 12 projects to receive funding across the state worth more than $177,000.
“Murtoa and the Yarriambiack Shire have many people who have served our country and it’s important that their stories are maintained in a fitting, respectful manner,” she said.
“The restoration of Murtoa’s memorial gates is a fitting way to honour the legacy of our local heroes.”
The Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Grant Program provides grants to communities to ensure local war memorials, honour rolls and avenues of honour are restored to their original condition.
