Kaniva Sergeant Darren Wright said police responded to a disturbance report on Tuesday at 10pm. Prior to arrival, he said the window of a neighbour’s vehicle was smashed.
Sergeant Wright said a Kaniva man, 30, was taken into custody for assaulting a police officer and for drunk and disorderly behaviour in a public place.
He said the offender approached a police officer aggressively and OC Foam – also known as pepper spray – was used.
“Police arrived at the location in response to a disturbance where the police was approached aggressively by a 30-year-old male and OC Foam was deployed,” he said.
“The police officer received no physical injuries and the male offender was treated at the scene with first aid by police and was attended to by Ambulance Victoria. No injuries were sustained.”
He said police were investigating damage to the car and asked witnesses to contact Kaniva Police Station.
Sergeant Wright said police were called to the same location about 3.40am on Wednesday after a man, 26, made threats to himself.
He said the male was remanded into custody on firearm offences.
The man will appear in court on Thursday for firearm offences and numerous unrelated offences.
