Tours of the various facilities housed at the park were held throughout the day, while a range of activities helped people celebrate the milestone.
People also had the chance to take a look inside the Australian Grains Genebank which contains more than 300 million seeds from 150 countries.
Agriculture Victoria chief executive Emily Phillips helped unveil a plaque to commemorate the anniversary.
The centre’s origins started in 1967 when a group of passionate Wimmera farmers decided a grains research was needed in the region.
The facility – then named the Victorian Wheat Research Institute – was officially opened on November 29, 1968.
The park is now home to the Genebank, the Victorian Fisheries Authority, Regional Development Victoria, the DELWPs Forest Fire Management Victoria and Horsham Incident Control Centre.
