Year 10 student Sara Jakobi has won Lutheran Media’s short movie competition for her project titled A Kind Heart.
The short movie was originally made for the Horsham school’s website, but Sara’s teachers believed her video was worthy of national recognition.
Lutheran Media’s competition required students to share a story of God’s love or a bible story that was engaged, entertained and inspired people.
The Holy Trinity Lutheran College student was competing against 40 other students from Lutheran schools throughout Australia.
“I heard about the competition from my media teacher Mr Polack and the school counsellor Mrs Penny,” she said. “I had no idea I was going to win at all, so it came as a huge surprise when I did.”
Sara hoped her short movie could spread a message that needs to be heard by more people in the community.
When someone is unkind they wrinkle the hearts of those around them and their hearts can’t be fixed once they are wrinkled.

She said the video emphasised the power of people’s words and actions on the people around them.
“It’s a message about being kind to people,” she said. “When someone is unkind they wrinkle the hearts of those around them and their hearts can’t be fixed once they are wrinkled.”
Sara said A Kind Heart was her first short movie she created and it most certainly was not her last.
“That was the first time making a short movie and working with that style of media,” she said. “I could see this as a hobby because I am interested in working with different forms of technology.
“Beside writing, I think filming is just a fresh new way to share a message with the wider community.”
Sara said she was grateful that her teachers encouraged her to submit her video for the national competition. She said there were also other students from the school who starred in the movie, which helped the project come to life.
