It’s always a great time to be relaxing in the garden, with friends and family around for a convivial drink and a quick bite that you have prepared earlier.
The Wimmera & Grampians Food & Wine Guide 2018, has a variety of suggestions and ideas to make your gathering just that little bit more interesting.
Like some Food & Wine trivia, an indepth look at one of our all time necessary spices, and just what the favourite nibbles are for several of the Royal family. Who knew?
Check your pantry now. Do you have a little round cardboard tin of cinnamon hiding at the back? No self-respecting cook would dare approach a baking day without it.
Then there are local wine makers and their warm and welcoming cellar door days, as well as other foodie locals like Greg Matthews.
“We celebrated our 75th birthday this year, with the first trees planted in 1943. We are one of the oldest groves in Australia, but still very young by world standards
- Grampians Olive Co.’s Greg Matthews
“We are proud to produce some of the highest quality organic extra virgin olive oil in Australia,” Grampians Olive Co.’s Greg Matthews said.
“Our entire grove is NASAA Certified Organic, (certification number 3532P) as are our pressing and bottling procedures - so the entire production process is certified to be free of contaminants.
“We measure the quality of our oil and quantify improvements in our harvesting, processing and bottling practices from year to year.
Grampians Olive Co. has many varieties of olives that are not planted regularly by other groves.
“As the trees get older the oil they produce gets better, so it is a real asset to us to have the older trees.” Mr Mathews said people should visit to try good, fresh, olive oil.
“It is fresh, local oil and anyone who hasn’t tried it before should definitely come and have a taste,” he said.
“This is the only place in Australia you will find our full range of award winning gourmet products in the one place, our distinctive range of infusions, table olives and artisan vinegars.”
A selection of dukkahs, honey and farmgate exclusive seasonal preserves made on the grove are also available. Espresso, platters and sweet treats can also be enjoyed while taking in the tranquil surrounds.
