Weather statistics, compiled by the college’s weather recorder Brett Allender, show that the total rainfall received at the college for 2018 to the end of October is 211.4mm, compared to the long-term average of 355mm.
Mr Allender said that this is the lowest rainfall total for this period since the 184mm in 2006 and the ninth lowest on record since 1889.
A total of 25.4mm of rain fell during October 2018 and was received over eight days. The highest daily rainfall of 16.8mm occurred on October 10.
Last month was also warmer than normal.
“The October average maximum temperature of 23.7 degrees is almost three degrees above average,” Mr Allender said.
“However, there have been three hotter Octobers experienced in the past decade, including the record of 28.4 degrees recorded in 2015.”
The hottest October day for 2018 was recorded on Monday, October 22 when a maximum temperature of 32.2 degrees was recorded.
Statistics at the college indicate that the average air humidity at 3pm was just 27 per cent compared to the long-term October average of 49 per cent.
This was the third lowest average air humidity percentage on record.
Mr Allender said Longerenong College weather station statistics indicate that the growing season rainfall (April to October) was 187mm.
This total is well below the long-term average of 284mm.
