MURTOA College volleyballers Laelah Robertson and Cleo Baker are the monthly nominees for October in the Sports Star of the Year awards, adding to a long list of young stars for the 2018 award.

Both girls won their nomination after being members of Victorian teams that won medals at the National Junior Volleyball Championships held on the Gold Coast.
Robertson was a member of the silver medal winning Victorian Blue team in the championship division while Baker’s Victorian Gold team won bronze in the divisional part of the championships.
Both girls are products of the Volleyball Horsham Academy Program and have stepped up into A grade competition this season.
They are busy preparing for the National Schools Cup in December, where their Murtoa College team will be looking to go one better than the silver medal they won last year.
Robertson and Baker are the latest young stars to be nominated.
They join the following athletes with a chance at taking out the coveted prize next year.
Horsham based triathletes Susie Ellis, Sally Pymer and Kelly Miller were the first nominees for the Sports Star of the Year awards in February.
Horsham basketballer and footballer Ben Hobbs along with Horsham Pony Club’s Morgan lane were joint nominees for March.
Hobbs represented state teams in both basketball and football this year, while Lane Lane won her nomination after winning the children’s ridden open category at Welsh Pony and Cob Society Australia’s 2018 Welsh National Show.
Promising young Warracknabeal swimmer Lily Eldridge was nominated in April, after competing at the School Sport Victoria state championships where she claimed a bronze medal.
Stawell equestrian Oscar Cole won his nomination for May after taking first place at the Horse Trials State Championship - Grade 2 division.
All-abilities athletes Josh Barry and Tyson Harris were joint winners for June.
Barry competed in the Multi Disability Lawn Bowls Championships at Kardinya Bowls Club Perth, where he won the Open triples 22-10 and was runner up in the pairs 13-14, while Harris was selected for Vic Country in the Inclusion Cup for the second year in a row.
Ten pin bowler Sophie Martin was nominated in June after being named to represent Australia at the Asian Schools Championships, while triathlete Ella Walsgott was nominated in August after being selected in the Triathlon Victoria development squad for the second year in a row.
There was no nomination for September.
