The Murtoa Events committee is currently organising its first venture – Wine and Dine in the Stick Shed – which will be held early next year.
The fine dining experience will include a five course menu created by four professional chefs, with each course matched with a wine from the Grampians and Pyrenees regions.
Murtoa Events media liaison Mikaela Reading said it had taken eight years for the event to get off the ground.
“Now it’s finally coming into fruition and we’re all really excited about it,” she said.
“It did take a bit of convincing to various community groups to let us use the Stick Shed, but it’s definitely getting a lot of support from the community and interest on social media.
“We’re really hoping this will have longevity and we are putting in a lot of effort to make it sustainable.”
She said the aim of the event was to promote the region’s fine wine and produce.
“Of course we were inspired by the Rupanyup Barley Banquet, but our event will have a slightly different flavour. It will be really targeted at people who love food and wine, and we really want to promote the local produce,” she said.
“We think we will attract a different crowd, but we also want to help raise money to go back into the community which is why we’re calling on sponsors to help us get up-and-running in our first year.”
A total of 200 tickets will be available which will go on sale in February. The inaugural Wine and Dine in the Murtoa Stick Shed event will be held on March 29.
Food writers Richard Cornish and Max Allen have been announced as two of the distinguished guests attending the event.
Murtoa Events is an offshoot of the Murtoa Progress Association and comprises of young residents with big ideas about how to put Murtoa on the map.
The committee of five has been working together with a number of helpers to plan the unique experience.
Any profits made will be used to fund future events or will be reinvested into the community.
