Horsham’s Spotlight has once again organised an annual Christmas appeal.
Store manager Nicole Beavis said people could purchase an item from inside the shop and receive 30 per cent off if it was placed under the Spotlight Christmas tree. She said people could also bring their own gifts to donate to the appeal.
The presents are donated to Grampians Community Health’s Horsham and Stawell services, who then distribute the presents to people who are homeless or families in need.
“It is important to give back to the community and for those needing help during Christmas. Donating a gift is the easiest and best thing we could do,” she said.
Horsham’s Christian Emergency Food Centre client assessment manager Bev Miatke said the organisation was co-ordinating a sponsorship appeal where people could purchase a hamper, which would go to a family in the Wimmera.
“Anyone who would like to participate can purchase one hamper for $30, a slightly larger hamper $60 and extra large for $90,” she said. “It doesn’t cost a lot to support people in need.”
Target and Uniting Wimmera have partnered to give back to the community through its annual Christmas appeal. A tree at the Horsham Target store allows people to donate gifts, which are then given to Uniting agencies to distribute.
The Kmart wishing tree appeal, together with The Salvation Army, is collecting gifts for those who would otherwise go without.
