Grants of up to $3000 and interest-free loans for solar and battery systems of up to $10,000 will be available.

There are a total of 1500 grant and loan packages, with 1000 solar panel and battery packages, and 500 battery-only packages for homes and business who already have solar panels.

The systems store the energy generated by solar panels for use when the sun goes down.

Queensland Energy Minister Anthony Lynham said there were already 100 battery systems being installed every month in the state, but they want to increase that number.

"These are the innovators, the first movers, and we saw years ago when we had the first movers in solar energy, and they're doing very well indeed," he said on Sunday

"So I'd encourage Queensland families to join us, save money and join us in that renewable future."

Dr Lynham said the measures, which were first announced in the state budget in June, were in addition to interest-free loans of up to $4500 already being offered for solar systems.

Battery storage systems start around $5000 for smaller systems and can cost over $10,000 for larger installations, with the government hoping the grants and loans will provide enough incentive for people considering one to make the jump.

The scheme also ties into the Queensland government's Renewable Energy Target of 50 per cent renewable energy in the state by 2030, with Dr Lynham describing Queenslanders' solar panels as "our biggest power station".
