This month we were advised that our two applications for funding from the state government’s new roads body, Regional Roads Victoria, under the Fixing Country Roads program had been successful.

We have been given $790,000 to construct and seal four kilometres of Bells Road near Reedy Dam and reconstruct 1.6 kilometres of Coorong Swamp Road near Murtoa.
The total cost of both projects will be $935,000 with council contributing $145,000 of this.
The council has proposed six priority sites for mobile phone towers at Lubeck, Rosebery, Lascelles, Willenabrina, Rosebery West and Reedy Dam that we believe should be constructed following the next round of Black Spot funding.
This would extend coverage to locations that contain CFA sheds and roads experiencing increased tourist and freight traffic.
We have also submitted three applications for funding under the federal government’s third round of the Building Better Regions Fund.
Two are for construction extensions at Warracknabeal’s saleyards and the catering building at Hopetoun’s Lake Lascelles.
The other is to capitalise on opportunities arising as a result of increased tourism along the Silo Art Trail.
This will better prepare towns in the Wimmera-Mallee so that they can provide the services, products and attractions that will encourage more tourists.
Streetscaping projects and improved caravan park-camping ground facilities are key areas that are being targeted.
The council is quite disappointed that campaigning by the ALP government in the lead up to the November 24 state election has failed to address the local community’s desire to extend passenger rail services to Horsham, Hamilton and Mildura.
The council has proposed six priority sites for mobile phone towers ...
At this stage even a commitment that funding for a business case will be forthcoming would be a positive move.
We are frustrated that ongoing funding to complete Warracknabeal’s education precinct has not been provided with no reason given.
The Finish What You Started campaign has received enormous community support but there has still been no response from government.
Plenty of money has been promised to communities in marginal electorates to improve their facilities including schools.
It appears we are missing out because our electorates are not marginal enough to warrant their attention.
