GWMWater’s Mark Williams won The CEO Magazine’s 2018 Energy and Resources Executive of the Year category.
Mr Williams was officially appointed to his role at GWMWater in 2012. He has been with GWMWater and the former Grampians Water since 1996.
Mr Williams said he was humbled by the recognition.
“I don’t go out of my way for the personal rewards or benefits, but it is nice to be recognised,” he said.
“This is reflective of all the good things GWMWater is doing for the community. Something like this wouldn’t even be possible without the extremely supportive and capable team of people at GWMWater.”
Mr Williams said some of his career highlights GWMWater included overseeing the competition of the Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline project and securing recreational water for the region’s lakes.
“I came on board as managing director just as the pipeline was completed, but I helped oversee the fiances in my previous role as finance officer,” he said.
“Another thing I am proud of is championing the importance of recreational water for the region’s small communities. Recently we have seen water return to Ouyen Lake and Green Lake, at Sea Lake.
“I’m also proud that we have been able to keep our water prices low for our customers. In fact, this year they have dropped even more.”
GWMWater Board chairman Peter Vogel said the award was due recognition for Mr Williams’ tireless work to improve the economic prosperity and environmental health and well-being of the region.
“On behalf of the board I would like to commend Mark for his efforts, which have been deservedly recognised by receiving this important award,” Mr Vogel said.
“Water is the lifeblood of our region. During his time at the helm of GWMWater, Mark has been instrumental in achieving water security and sustainability for communities and businesses across western Victoria.”
