THE girl’s Western Waves sides have started off the Youth Premier League cricket season with wins on Sunday in Horsham.
The under-14s, featuring Horsham Saints’ Tahlia Thompson and Georgia Baker-Miller, batted first at Dimboola Road Oval.
A competitive total of 8-189 from 40 overs backed up with a strong bowling performance ensured the win.
Waves bowled out Mallee for just 34 runs. Baker-Miller and Thompson had tough times with the bat, making 1 and a duck respectively. Both players also had a bowl in the first game of the season.
The under-17s, which feature squad members Ruby James from West Wimmera and Homers’ Penelope Drummond, also had a good day on Sunday.
The Waves batted first at Horsham’s City Oval and made 4-193 before restricting Mallee to 8-108.
James took 2-20 from her three overs but didn’t get a chance to bat.
