YARRIAMBIACK council’s request to change speed limits at the Rosebery Silo Art site has been denied by VicRoads.

In April the council passed a motion to request the speed limit be lowered from 100km/h following community concerns around safety at the site.
At the council’s April meeting, then acting chief executive and current Infrastructure and Planning director James Magee said a number of community members had approached him regarding the issue.
“Although there is extremely good access and parking at the Rosebery site, the highway speed limit is 100kmh. There’s also a rise on the northern side which makes it difficult to see what’s over the hill,” he said at the time.
Another concern were the two access roads to the Sheep Hills Silo Art site, which both have Y-intersections with the Stawell-Warracknabeal Road.
At the council’s November meeting, Mr Magee said VicRoads’ decision not to lower the speed limit at the Rosebery site was “fair enough”.
“At least we tired. There is now discussion about the Sheep Hills site and making it into a T-intersection for safety reasons,” he said.
The popularity of the Silo Art Trail has continued to increase Yarriambiack shire’s tourism numbers.
A report last year that visitor numbers to the Wimmera-Southern Mallee had increased by about 400 per cent since 2015.
