Sitting in the marginal seat of Ripon has been a big advantage for the health facility, with $2.2 million announced for much needed hospital infrastructure in March this year. A further $293,000 was received in August to upgrade its IT infrastructure.
“We are grateful for this funding which assists us to upgrade our facilities whist we continue to operate in a tight fiscal environment,” Stawell Regional Health chief executive Libby Fifis said.
The ongoing funding is crucial to help the organisation improve its deficit position, something Ms Fifis said is crucial.
Ms Fifis said the organisation has also been proactive in establishing region first initiatives.
“We are also incredibly excited to be partnering with Austin Health for a new service to provide superficial x-ray treatment of skin cancers. This service will be the only one of its kind across the region and we are planning for its commencement in mid-2019,” she said.
Ms Fifis said there is also a focus on staff. “We are pleased to announce that we have contracted a new GP to commence with us in 2019,” she said. “Next year we will also have two medical registrars through the registrar training program as well as two Deakin University medical students.”
