After a decade of setbacks, the club last month called on the community to help raise $300,000 to avoid the potential of going into administration. The club is in $1.4 million debt.
President Leo Delahunty said the club was in the process of assessing its debts levels and exploring options to manage them.
He did not disclose where the money would specifically go towards, however said the club was exploring options.
“We want to have a clear view of where we’re going before we move the money across from where it is in a separate account into our operations account. That will be dealt with in the next 10 days,” he said.
“We’re also looking at options to restructure our debt arrangements. We’ve got people who are helping us in relation to those options.”
He said the club was focusing on “three prongs” going forward.
“The first was the appeal which aimed to deal with the liquidity and we were very pleased that we got to where we were with that,” he said.
“The second was is explore options of re-arranging our debt structure – we’re doing a lot of work in that area.
“Then the final one is about getting profitability around the profit and loss area. Again, we’re making nice progress there – we still have a long way to go, but we’re making progress. I think things will look a lot different in two or three months from now.”
The Wimmera Mail-Times understands that at least one Melbourne-based golf club reached out to its members to donate to the Horsham Golf Club’s fundraiser.
Mr Delahunty said he wasn’t aware of the support the club received from its metropolitan counterparts, but wanted to thank everyone who had contributed to the campaign.
“That just shows the good will of people and the way the Horsham club is regarded in the community,” he said.
“We will be writing a letter of thanks to our donors, but I don’t think we’ll announce who they are publicly. I think people tend to want to be generally low key in that area.”
He said the club was considering holding more fundraisers in the future.
“We are looking at doing a gala day in February, but it’s very early days of planning at the moment,” he said.
“That will be a community thing where we’ll have the club open and people will be able to get a feel for the place. There will be some fundraising aspects to it, but it will be a fun day.”
