It has been confirmed by the office of Planning Minister Richard Wynne that a two-turbine wind farm has been given the go ahead at Jung.
The 8.4 MW wind energy facility is expected to create 17 new construction jobs and will produce enough energy to power 5400 households per year. The two 241m-high turbines will produce up to 4.2 MW capacity each.
The Jung Wind Farm is being developed and built by BayWa r.e Wind Pty Ltd, which will lay all cables underground and connect to the existing 22kV power line along Henty Highway.
Mr Wynne said the farm would help drive down power bills by increasing energy supply.
“The Jung Wind Farm proves good things come in small packages. It’s a small wind farm that will deliver big benefits to the local community, bringing new jobs and more clean energy to the northern Wimmera,” he said.
“We’re cutting power bills for Victorian homes and businesses by paving the way for affordable, renewable energy to flow through regional Victoria.”
He also said the Horsham Rural City Council had welcomed the development and the project received no objections during public consultation.
The Wimmera Mail-Times has contacted Horsham Rural City Council for comment.
More to come.
