Sergeant Darren Bull said police intercepted a number of drivers who were speeding, which was “abnormal” for the area.
Three drivers alone were caught speeding on Thursday.
Sergeant Bull said the drivers were travelling up to 120 kilometres an hour. The penalty was a $322 fine and three demerit points.
“Most offenders are not local to the area. They are just passing through from Mildura to Melbourne, vice versa and any towns in between,” he said. “The drivers have been a mix of genders and vary in age – from early 20s to early 60s.”
Police are out in force across the region for Operation Roadwise until January 6, targeting dangerous driving, drug and drink-driving, and irresponsible behaviour.
“We want people to arrive to their destination safely, especially after one of the lowest road tolls in history and we want to continue that for this year,” Sergeant Bull said.
