It was Sebastian’s enthusiastic nature and a genuine interest in helping others that earned him the honour.
Despite the many years spent volunteering for his community, the award still came as a “surprise” to this year’s recipient.
“Everything I do, I do because I am passionate about it, but to be recognised is something very special,” he said.
Sebastian has been actively involved in Relay for Life for over 10 years and has been a member of the National Youth Halogen Leadership Group. He said volunteering has become second nature for him.

“Everyone in my family has been involved in the community and we make ourselves help out when we can,” he said.
The former St Brigid’s College student was named vice-captain of his school last year. He also represented the school at the Darwin Defenders and Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Sebastian has also umpired at the School Sport Australia National Championships in 2016 and 2017. He was recognised as a leading football umpire and was a member of the VFL rookie squad.
“I played football for Horsham Saints and then my sister became involved in umpiring because after a certain point the girls couldn’t be involved,” he said.
“The whole family followed on from her and I was a bit better at umpiring than I was playing so I pursued that path.”
After successfully completing year 12 last year, Sebastian also undertook volunteer work at a remote village in Cambodia helping underprivileged children.
“It was very eye-opening and had a big impact, especially because how different their lives have been compared to ours,” he said.
