No fires can be lit in the open air in the region between one minute past midnight and 11.59pm on January 12.
The Country Fire Authority has advised residents that the fire danger rating for the Mallee was severe.
People living in areas at risk of fire are advised to activate their bush fire plan.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecast a very hot and sunny day with temperatures up to 43 degrees for the Mallee. Winds will tend southerly at 25 to 35 kilometres an hour in the late afternoon.
