Bibby scored 24 points and played all 40 minutes during the Southeastern college basketball contest against Georgia College on Friday.
The Bulldogs defeated Georgia 80-71.
Mississippi State coach Vic Schaefer praised Bibby’s performance in a press conference after the game.
“Chloe started out like a house on fire,” Schaefer said. “She made some big shots early and got us going.
“She carried us in the first half – just was really special.”
Bibby hit four three-pointers in an impressive shooting display. Bibby said she has been working hard on her long range shooting.
“I just got in the gym and tried to get up those game shots,” she said. “I think my teammates helped a lot with the confidence in practice but now I just have to keep that going – I still need to be more consistent.”
Bibby followed up her career-high night with 11 points in an 85-59 win against Auburn on Tuesday.
Bibby has taken a step up this season after Mississippi State lost four key players from last season’s team.
With an increased role in the offense, she has improved from an average of 4.0 points per game in her freshman year to 12.8 this season.
“We had four seniors leave this year and I kind of had to step up,” Bibby said. “(With) my teammates and everyone helping me, I’ve been able to make that transition.
“Coach Schaefer and our strength and conditioning coach have really helped out with a lot. All that practice we go through in the summer has really helped me elevate my game.”
Mississippi State lost last year’s national title game by just three points, and Bibby’s side has bounced back to be in contention for the title again this season. They are currently ranked as the third best college basketball team in the country, with a win-loss record of 14-1.
Bibby said Mississippi State’s supporters would be one of the key factors in their title challenge. She said the home crowd of 6,493 for their match against Georgia College certainly contributed to the close win.
“We’ve got the best fans in the country. They’re amazing,” Bibby said. “We know we have to win these games. We’re going to have a lot of tough close games throughout the season.”
