The Waves under-14 side won three of their five matches at a Youth Premier League tournament in Melbourne.
Coach Alastair Templeton said all three of the Wimmera juniors showed some great signs against the best players in the state.
Jett Hopper had a couple of disappointing games with the bat early in the week but bounced back.
“Jett missed out on the first couple of days with the bat but his innings on Thursday was pretty much match winning,” Templeton said.
“He scored 23 on a slow pitch so it was probably worth 40-50.
“He also brought it in the field with his arm. He’s clearly one of the best throws in our team.
“He contributed to about five or so runouts for the tournament I would think, which doesn’t really show up on the scoresheet.”
Aaron Schofield stepped into the role of wicket-keeper for a number of games, something that he wasn’t all too familiar with.
“Aaron stepped in as a keeper which probably isn’t his main role but he did more than a good job,” Templeton said.
“He probably had about seven stumpings over the week so he was really good.
“With the bat he was really good too. He came out and finished well in a few innings.”
Connor Weidemann also impressed despite being one of the youngest players at the tournament.
“Connor was great all week. You can see he is going to be a classy player,” Templeton said.
“Even though he is bottom-age he stood out in the field, and looked really good when he bowled. He closed out some games for us in the twenty20’s when we needed to hold them.”
