Ms Eastick and her partner Brad Hendy welcomed their daughter Rylee Grace Hendy into the world on the morning of January 16 at Wimmera Base Hospital in Horsham.
Rylee’s introduction into the world was filled some significant excitement.
“I started feeling contractions at about 7.45am. We were getting ready to go slowly because they weren’t coming too quickly and we didn’t leave for another 30 minutes,” she said.
“Once we started driving, the contractions were becoming only one or two minutes apart. So we rang the ambulance about 10 minutes out of Kaniva and they met us in Nhill.
“We’re about an hour from both Horsham and Naracoorte, so either way it would have been the same thing.”
Police officers from Dimboola, Nhill and Kaniva escorted the ambulance to Horsham.
“I didn’t even know they were doing that until we got to the hospital. I must have been in my own little world,” Ms Eastick said.
Ms Eastick gave birth to baby Rylee less than 10 minutes after arriving at the hospital.
“They sprinted me in on the stretcher through all the corridors and got me onto the bed,” she said.
“We asked if I could have any gas and they said ‘no, the head is there’. It was only about two pushes and she came out.”
Ms Eastick and Mr Hendy wanted to thank the hospital staff and emergency services members who help with the delivery.
“I’d like to thank the police, the ambos, and the midwifes Monica, Steph and Michelle,” she said.
Rylee was born at 10.06am on January 16, weighing 7.4 lbs and measuring 49cm. She is a baby sister for Ms Eastick and Mr Hendy’s first daughter, Billie.
The couple said they looked forward to telling Rylee the dramatic story of her birth when she was older.
