Bibby sustained the injury in the first minute of Mississippi State’s 89-74 victory against South Carolina on Friday.
Bibby had been performing excellently in her second year with Mississippi State, averaging 12.6 points per game.
Bibby scored a career-high 24 points in a win against Georgia a week and a half ago as her team proved they are firmly in contention for the national title.
Mississippi State coach Vic Schaefer said he was “heartbroken” for Bibby in a press conference after the match.
“To have what happened to us tonight is really what you dread as a coach,” Schaefer said.
“Chloe Bibby has worked her tail off to be where she is, and to see that happen to her just rips your guts out. Rips your heart out.
“It’s very difficult.”
Bibby was having an exceptional season with Mississippi State in her second year at the college. She had solidified her spot in the team’s starting line-up and had increased her scoring from 4.0 points per game in her freshman year to 12.6 this season.
Bibby posted a statement on twitter thanking everyone for the support and saying she was determined to remain upbeat.
"Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who sent their loving messages, thoughts and prayers,” Bibby said.
“I’m utterly humbled by the amount of overwhelming love I have received in the past 24 hours.
“Just a bump in my journey but I promise I’ll come back bigger and better than before.
“I may be out for the rest of the season, but that doesn't mean you won't see me cheering my heart out on the sideline.”
Coach Schaefer said he expected Bibby to come back next season as determined as ever.
"My heart is broken for her,” he said. “If I know Chloe, she will come back bigger, faster and stronger than ever before and will be tireless in her pursuit of excellence."
