Burke returned to the team this season after several years away from the Hornets’ line-up, missing the Hornets’ drought-breaking championship win last season.
Burke last played in the 2014-15 season when the the Hornets lost a heartbreaking grand final to Colac.
“Out there I’m a fairly competitive sort of guy. You put the time in and you want to get the results, so that loss a couple of years ago always left a bit of a sour taste,” Bourke said.
“I guess you want to make amends a bit.
“But to be honest – and I guess it’s the standard cliche – you just have to worry about who you’ve got in front of you.
“We’re fully focused on the match against Terang this weekend. I know they can really shoot if you give them the chance so we’re going to have to play well.”
Returning to the team as a veteran presence, Burke has offered some valuable grunt for the Hornets this season. He is a big bodied presence that isn’t afraid to do the dirty work on the defensive end and on the glass.
“My capabilities are more on the defensive end. I’m not really a major scoring option, we’ve got enough of those guys,” he said.
“With Jake Hobbs, Benny Lakin and myself, we can rotate through those big man spots and stay fresh – most sides have a couple of sizeable guys and it helps our young players if they don’t have to play out of position against someone too big.”
Burke said he has enjoyed playing this season with a number of promising young players in the Hornets side.
“It’s been really good to play with the young boys there and to help them out,” Burke said. “I don’t think I can teach them too much, I think they all probably know more than me.
“It’s more about the competing side of things, just continually rocking up to make sure that we are switched on and ready to go. That comes with experience.”
